#12 Mariners Defeat Ursinus and Muhlenberg

The 12th ranked Mariner wrestling squad continued to their winning streak this Saturday with wins over Muhlenberg, and Ursinius College at Muhlenberg College, in Allentown, PA. The squad defeated Muhlenberg 45-9, and Ursinius College 26-17.
In their defeat against Muhlenberg, the Mariners were lead by Junior Judd Connell (Hastings, MN), who pinned Muhlenberg’s Chris Galleta in just: 46 seconds at the heavyweight class. At the 197-pound weight class, Sophomore Dan Argast (Mt. Kisco, NY) pinned Muhlenberg’s Nick Pallotta in 1:41, while Sophomore Martin Bell (Easton Rapids, MI) pinned Mulhenberg’s Matt Parker in 2:14 at the 149-pound weight class. Junior Justin Diesel (Minisink Valley, NY) pinned Muhlenberg’s Kenneth Ludwig at 5:19 at the 174-pound weight class, while Junior Vincent Renaut (Plymouth, MA) pinned Muhlenberg’s Patrick Gibson in 3:17 at the 165-pound weight class. Rounding out the Mariner’s victory were Junior Dan Twito (Cedar Falls, IA) at the 157-pound weight class, with at 14-7 maj. Decision over the Mules’ Keith Swanson, and Jordan Alfaro (Fayetteville, NC) and Erik Schott (Alliance, OH), who both won by forfeit at the 12 and 184-pound weight classes, respectively.
In the 26-17 Mariner victory over Ursinus College, the Bears suffered their first defeat by way of the Mariner wrestling squad. Alfaro defeated Ursinus’ Connor Gregory 15-3 in a maj. decision. Junior Nick Swanson (Wauconda, IL) pinned Ursinus’ Curtis Watkins in 5:49 at the 149-pound weight class. Twito followed with a 6-1 decision over Ursinus’ John Whitham at the 157-pound weight class. Renaut defeated Ursinius’ Harris Papas 16-4 at the 165-pound weight class, then Diesel defeated Ursinus’ Myles Tornetta 7-4 at the 174 pound weight class. Rounding out the Mariner victory was Connell, who pinned Ursinius’ Ed Minelli in 1:08.
The Mariner’s are back in action February 6th, as they compete in the All-Academy Championships in Annapolis, MD.
