Jay Carpenter Garners Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete Honors
Apr 15, 2008 - Jay Carpenter of the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming and diving team was one of six student-athletes to be named a Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete this winter. The announcement was made by the league office earlier today. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected one senior from each of the six fall sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life, including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.

Men's Swimming And Diving Finishes 25th At NCAA's
Mar 22, 2008 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s swimming and diving team finished 25th at the NCAA Championships on Saturday with 34.5 points. Freshman Nicholas Halbach was named an All-American for the second time after placing second in the 3-meter diving event. Kenyon won its 29th straight national championship and finished with 635 points.

Mar 21, 2008 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming and diving team sits in 25th place overall with 17.5 points after the second day of competition at the NCAA Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Senior Jay Carpenter was named an All-American after placing tied for 14th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Freshman John Fields swam the 400 yard individual medley and classmate Nicholas Halbach stands in first place with five dives remaining in the 3-meter diving event. Kenyon College, which has won 28 straight NCAA Division III National Championships, leads the field with 429 points.

Mar 20, 2008 - Three members of the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s swimming and diving team – Jay Carpenter, John Fields and Nicholas Halbach - will compete at the NCAA Championships at Miami University in Dayton, Ohio over the next three days. This is the largest amount of student-athletes that the program will send to compete individually at the championship event in the Sean Tedesco coaching era which has spanned seven seasons. Student-athletes who finish in the top 16 of an event will garner All-American honors. The action begins on Thursday and continues on Saturday.

Mar 7, 2008 - The NCAA announced on Friday afternoon that three members of the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s swimming and diving team had qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championships. Jay Carpenter (200 IM, 100 breast and 200 back), John Fields (200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast) and Nicholas Halbach on both boards all qualified for the championship event which will be held at Miami University's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. The College of Wooster will serve as the host during the weekend of March 20-22.
