Kings Point, NY – In addition to three of his teammates, sophomore kicker Geoff Troy earned Pre-Season First-Team All-America honors in both the D3Football.com and Don Hansen Football Gazette teams.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy football program will look to remain competitive in the Liberty League, one of the nation’s premier conferences at the NCAA Division III level, with a young squad this fall. Following a 1-9 season in 2007, Head Coach Mike Toop and the Mariners will be returning 33 letterwinners and 18 starters in 2008, including second team All-Liberty League kicker Geoff Troy.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Athletic Department is proud to announce the 2008 football schedule.  The Mariners have ten contests scheduled with six of them being played on Captain Tomb Field.

Senior linebacker Garron Edgington and junior place kicker Geoff Troy were each named to the All-Liberty League Second Team. The announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Both of them ranked among the league’s best in several categories this past fall.

Calder Kaatz and Derrick Ventre of the United States Merchant Marine Academy football team earned weekly honors by the Liberty League today for their roles in the Mariners’ 37-32 victory over Susquehanna. Kaatz earned Liberty League C-Defensive Player of the Week honors while Ventre was named the Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
