Davey May Named D3 Baseball All-American

Senior Davey May was selected as a 2009 First Team D3 Baseball All-American. This is the first time in school history that a Mariners baseball player has garnered All-American honors.  The selections were announced on Wednesday morning.

Bybee’s 3 Homers in Twinbill Not Enough to Take Down Scranton

KINGS POINT, N.Y. –  On Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team was defeated by the University of Scranton in doubleheader action by final scores of 15-8 and 11-6 at Connell Park in Scranton, Pa. as the Mariners opened up Landmark Conference play. With the wins, Scranton improved to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Following the losses, Kings Point fell to 2-6 on the year and 0-2 in the league.  

Early Offense Secures Baseball’s Triumph Over Maritime, 11-6

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – On Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team defeated Maritime College, 11-6, in eight darkness-shortened innings at Lower Roosevelt Field in Kings Point, N.Y. in the 2010 home opener. A seven-run bottom of the first inning gave the Mariners all the confidence they needed from the get-go. With the victory, USMMA improved to 2-4. Following the loss, the Privateers fell to 1-3.  

Baseball Drops 2 of 3 Against Coast Guard in Sunshine State Action

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team opened up the 2010 regular season with a three-game series against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Fort Myers, Fla. The Mariners grabbed a win in Game 1 of the doubleheader on Sunday, 5-4, but fell in the second contest, 3-2. In the rubber game on Monday, the Bears were victorious again, 13-6.  

Michael Notebaert Named Coach "O" Coach of the Year

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball coach, Michael Notebaert, was named the 2008-2009 Coach Omeltchenko Coach of the Year for the Academy. The award was given to Coach Notebaert by Superintendent RADM Allen B. Worley and Athletics Director Susan Peterson Lubow at the Varsity Awards Ceremony.

Two Mariners Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region

Senior David May and junior Mike Bybee were named to the ABCA/Rawlings New York All-Region First Team. The selections were announced Tuesday morning.
