Athletic History
As a means to promote the "whole person" concept, the Academy offers 23 varsity sports to its Midshipmen. One goal of the Academy is to encourage the physical development and leadership qualities necessary for success in today's competitive world market.
For male Midshipmen, the Academy offers the following varsity sports: baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, pistol, intercollegiate sailing, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and wrestling. For female Midshipmen, the following varsity sports are offered: basketball, crew, cross country, pistol, intercollegiate sailing, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, and volleyball. Female Midshipmen have successfully competed in men's sports such as tennis and golf.
The Academy competes at the NCAA Division III level, and Mariner sport teams and individuals have enjoyed success in the NCAA Division III Championships. The men's basketball team has earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Championships five different times and advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2000-01, posting the program's first-ever NCAA win. The men's soccer team earned their first trip to the NCAAs since the 1970's in 2000 and recorded the Mariners' first team victory in NCAA competition. The women's volleyball team also headed off to the NCAAs for the third consecutive year in 2001.

The pistol team has competed at Nationals during the last several seasons, while the intercollegiate sailing team went to the ICSA North American Championships four of the last six seasons and had the ICSA North American Single-handed National Champion last fall in David Wright '04.
In terms of individuals, athletes from the cross country, swimming and diving, track and field, and wrestling teams have earned the honor to represent USMMA at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Swimmers Andrew Dunlevy '06 and Jay Carpenter combined for five All-American certificates at the 2006 Championships in Minneapolis. Diver Joel Meyer had success in 2002, leading off to compete at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships for the second consecutive year and earning All-America honors on the one-meter and three-meter boards. Diver Nicholas Halbach '11 in 2008-09 season became the first Mariners two be a National Champion on both the one-meter and three-meter boards in the same year. Todd Hoyt attended the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships and was 13th in the 200 meters. Track & Fielder Adam Polite '06 qualified for the championship in both his junior and senior seasons. Finally, Danny Song earned an eighth place finish at the 2006 Wrestling Championships, becoming the first wrestler in USMMA history to earn All-America status.

In addition to the NCAA, the Academy is also affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on the regional level. In the last seven years, the men's basketball, football, lacrosse, and soccer teams have appeared in ECAC Championships. Last year, the soccer team competed in the ECAC Metro New York/New Jersey Championships and hosted the tournament at the number-one seed. The football team won the ECAC Southwest Championship in 1996 and 1997. Individually, members from the swimming and diving and track and field teams have also appeared in their respective ECAC Championships.
On the local level, Kings Point participates in a number of different conferences. In 1992, the Mariners joined the Freedom Football Conference (showcasing elite programs from the New York and New England and Pennsylvania region), which later became known as the Liberty League. The Academy is a founding member of the Skyline Athletic Conference, which offers Championships in men's and women's

cross country, men's and women's basketball, golf, soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, tennis, and women's volleyball. USMMA also sponsors teams in the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association, the Collegiate Track Conference and the Metropolitan Conference.
In, 2007, USMMA became a founding member of the Landmark Conference along with Drew University, Susquehanna University, Catholic University, Goucher College, Moravian College, Juniata College and the University of Scranton.
In 2003-04 USMMA dicontinued four sports including: men's water polo, men's volleyball, and men's and women's rifle.
