Women’s Cross Country Takes First Place At MSMC Knight Invite

MILTON, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2018) – The USMMA women's cross country team won the 11th Annual MSMC Knight Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Mount St. Mary College up at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Ulster County. The Mariners finished the event with 65 team points, well ahead of second-place Mount St. Mary, who had 106 points. In third place was fellow Skyline school St. Joseph's-L.I. with 132 points. 

Merchant Marine had the top-two finishers in the 6K race, as freshman Robin King (Raymond, Ohio) was the individual winner with a time of 25:32 and classmate Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) was second, crossing in 26:46. Fellow plebe Anna Grafton (Belmont, N.H.) came in seventh place in 27:20 and junior Carissa Buonerba (Atlanta, Ga.) was the next Mariner to cross, coming in 22nd (earning 20 points) with a time of 28:15. Rounding out the top-five for USMMA was junior Valerie Bowman (Newark, Ohio), who came in 37th place (35 points) in 28:56.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when they compete in the 19th Annual St. Joseph's-L.I. Invitational at Sunken Meadow Park in Kings Park, N.Y.
