Women’s XC Competes At NYIT Invite On Saturday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2018) – The USMMA women's cross country team took part in the NYIT Invitational on Saturday morning. The Mariners placed sixth out of eight total teams, first among DIII schools and ahead of a Division II team. 

Junior Alyssa DeGuzman (Stafford, Va.) was Merchant Marine's top finisher, coming in 23rd place in the 5K race with a time of 21:42.78. Senior Monica Keeley (West Hartford, Conn.) was the second Mariner to cross the finish line, as she placed 28th in 23:12.61. 

Junior Samantha Reinebold (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Alexa Lumpkin (Fallston, Md.) followed in 31st (23:55.84) and 35th (25:22.54) places, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for USMMA was sophomore Dakota Morrow (Seneca, S.C.), who completed the loop in 26:08.91.

The Mariners are right back in action tomorrow, Sept. 16, when they take part in the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. First race is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
