TOWSON, Md. (Oct. 7, 2017) – The USMMA women's cross country team competed at former Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College's Cross Country Classic on Saturday down in Maryland. The Mariners finished in second place out of seven teams with a score of 55 points, behind winner St. Mary's (Md.), who had 30 points and ahead of third-place Hartford Community College (72 points) and fourth-place Goucher (84 points).
Three runners placed in the top-10 for Merchant Marine, with sophomore Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) leading the way with a sixth-place showing in the 6K race with a time of 27:50.59. Classmate Valerie Bowman (Newark, Ohio) was right behind in seventh in 28:21.96 and freshman Kelly Caubo (Phoenix, Md.) came in ninth (eight points) with a time of 28:28.42.
Rounding out the scoring for the Mariners were sophomore Alyssa DeGuzman (Stafford, Va.), who notched 12 points with a 15th-place finish in 29:15.85 and junior Erica Lawlor (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who accounted for 22 points with a 29th-place showing in 31:28.00.
The Mariners return to action next Sunday, Oct. 15, when they compete in the Cougar Chase, hosted by Caldwell University in Caldwell, N.J.
