Brookville, NY – The USMMA women's cross country team placed fourth out of 12 teams Saturday morning at the LIU Post Invitational. Junior Amber Kinter led the way for the Mariners, finishing the 5000 meter course in 16th place, crossing the finish line in exactly 20 minutes. All of USMMA's top-five finished in the top-half of the field in the team's best result of the young season.
"Today the race went very well and our women's team ran smart," said Head Coach David Lawrence, Jr. "It was good to see our runners out front mixing it up with the local Division I and II teams. Finishing 4th overall was an improvement from last week and last year at this time."
Anya Hovanic (Ramstein, Germany) earned 28th as she crossed the tape in 20:40 to become Merchant Marine's second finisher. Freshman Mary Catherine Zehnder (Carle Place, NY) finished four places behind Hovanic with a time of 20:53. Lorisabel Santos-DeJesus (Williamsburg, VA) also scored for USMMA with a time of 20:58, good for 35th in the field. The Mariners top-five was rounded out by Elizabeth Coulter (Thousand Oaks, CA), whose time of 21:31 put her in 45th out of a total 115 runners.
The USMMA women's cross country team returns to action October 5 at the Highlander Challenge in Newark, NJ.
