KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2018) – USMMA freshman Taylor Gilbertson (Phoenix, Ariz.) can add another award to her resume, as she was selected by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the DIII Rookie of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday. Gilbertson finished ahead of all eligible freshmen on the ballot from the three regions within the ECAC – North, South and Metro.
Gilbertson was already named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, the AVCA Northeast Region and Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, and to the AVCA All-Region and Skyline All-Conference First Teams.
The freshman led the Skyline Conference and finished the season ranked fifth in the nation with 5.13 points per set and 11th in the country with 4.25 kills per set. She also ranked fourth in the Skyline and 14th in the nation with 0.76 service aces per set. She had a total of 268 kills, 155 digs and 48 service aces on the season.

Gilbertson helped lead the Mariners to an 18-6 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Skyline Conference action, as USMMA claimed its second regular season title (and first outright) in the past three seasons. Merchant Marine also rattled off a program-best 15-match winning streak from Sept. 22-Oct. 27.
