KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2018) – On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced its weekly honors for women's volleyball and a pair of USMMA student-athletes garnered recognition after helping lead the Mariners to a 2-0 week with a pair of straight-set victories over Old Westbury and Purchase at a tri-match on Saturday. Freshman Shelby Bowman (Redmond, Wash.) was selected as the Rookie of the Week and junior Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Bowman recorded a team-high 21 kills over the two matches – 13 against Old Westbury and eight against Purchase – as she led all players in kills in both contests. She hit at a .429 clip at the tri-match with 21 kills, six errors and 35 total attempts. The freshman also added 10 digs, which ranked second on the squad, and tied for the team-high with seven service aces in the two matches.
Kappas dished out 11.00 assists per set over four sets on Saturday. In the win over Old Westbury, the junior recorded an impressive 31 assists in just two sets.

Six Mariners ranks among the Skyline statistical leaders. They are listed below.
- Freshman Taylor Gilbertson (Phoenix, Ariz.) is first in the conference with 4.36 kills per set and 5.30 points per set, while her .292 hitting percentage is good for third in the league and her 0.81 service aces per set is tied for fourth.
- Freshman Brittney Pinzon (Fullerton, Calif.) is the conference leader with 9.25 assist per set .
- Senior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.) ranks second in the league with 3.94 kills per set and 4.60 points per set, while her .226 hitting percentage is good for 10th.
- Freshman Cadee From (Enid, Okla.) is third in the Skyline with 0.72 blocks per set and fourth with a .272 hitting percentage.
- Junior Nicole Ibinson (Fredericksburg, Va.) ranks third in the conference with 4.05 digs per set.
- And freshman Juliet Vendl (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is ninth in the league with a .241 hitting percentage.
Kappas has not yet met the minimum sets played to be listed in the conference leaders, but if she did meet the minimum, she would be the Skyline leader with 11.00 assists per set.
As a team, the Mariners lead the conference with a .234 hitting percentage, a .050 opponent hitting percentage, 11.38 assists per set, 12.01 kills per set and 3.35 service aces per set, while also ranking third with 1.29 blocks per set.

Gilbertson also ranks very high among national leaders as well, as she is third in the country in points per set and eighth in kills per set. The rookie also ranks 11th in the nation in aces per set. Lefler comes in at 24th among DIII players in points per set and 32nd in kills per set.
As a team, the Mariners have taken over first place in opponent hitting percentage and are sixth in the nation in aces per set and 29th in hitting percentage.

The Mariners have completed the regular season as the Skyline Regular Season Champions with an 18-5 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the Skyline, and are riding a 15-match winning streak. They earned the #1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Tournament and will host the semifinals on Thursday against the winner of the #5 Farmingdale State at #4 Mount St. Vincent first-round match tonight.
