FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2017) – On Saturday, the USMMA women's volleyball team split a Skyline tri-match at Farmingdale State, dropping the first match to the host Rams in straight sets, before sweeping SUNY Maritime in the second match. The Mariners' record moves to 13-7 (6-2 Skyline), while FSC improves to 17-7 (7-0 Skyline) with two wins on the day and the Privateers fall to 10-15 (4-6 Skyline) with two losses.
In the 25-17, 25-11, 25-23 loss to the Rams, junior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.) led all players in the match with 12 kills, while sophomore Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) recorded a match-high 27 assists. Senior Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) nearly had a double-double with nine kills and matched for the team-high of eight digs with senior Myckenzie Toler (Prunedale, Calif.).
In the 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 win over SUNY Maritime, Pope had a match-high 13 kills and senior Kayla Gleason (Sound Beach, N.Y.) added 10. Kappas dished out 33 assists and, defensively, classmate Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) picked up 12 digs.
The Mariners are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Purchase and Old Westbury for a Skyline tri-match. The opening match of the day against the Purchase Panthers is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Before the match, the Mariners will pay tribute to their six graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony. The day will end with a 3 p.m. match against the Old Westbury Panthers.
