KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2017) – Earlier this week, the Skyline Conference selected USMMA sophomore Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) to its weekly honor roll for women's volleyball. This is the third time this season the conference has honored Kappas, as she was the Player of the Week back on Sept. 5 and was named to the weekly honor roll on Sept. 25.
Kappas matched her career-high of 45 assists in the Mariners' tough 3-2 home loss to Hunter on Wednesday night, while also just missing out a double-double with nine digs. She followed that up with 27- and 30-assist performances on Sunday in Skyline sweeps over St. Joseph's of Brooklyn and Sarah Lawrence. The sophomore also added 11 kills offensively over the three matches last week.
The setter continues to lead all Skyline players at the position with 8.66 assists per set. Other Mariners among the conference's statistical leaders are junior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.), who is second in the league with 3.03 kills per set and ninth with a .221 hitting percentage, senior Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.), who is right behind Lefler in third with 2.98 kills per set and also seventh with 0.60 service aces per set, classmate Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.), who is the Skyline's third-best blocker with 0.79 blocks per set, and senior Myckenzie Toler (Prunedale, Calif.), who is 10th in the conference with 0.56 aces per set.
The Mariners return to the court tomorrow night, Thursday, Oct. 19, when they travel up to New Rochelle for a non-conference showdown with the CNR Blue Angels. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Wellness Center on the campus of the College of New Rochelle.
