Volleyball team sweeps Staten Island in season opener

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Kings Point's women's volleyball got off its season on the right foot by sweeping the College of Staten Island in three sets on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners won 25-21, 25-10 and 25-22.

Jessica Tyack led the hosts with six kills. Miranda Walz added 15 assists. Julie Flaherty chipped in with three aces and Sara Ellenberger finished with three blocks.

Kings Point coach James Seitelman was pleased with the win, but he felt there was room for improvement.

"This is a young team in its first match," he said. "We made too many unforced errors. That's something to improve upon.

"It's good to get a win under our belts."

The Mariners will host Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
