The Merchant Marine indoor track & field teams competed at the Molloy College Invitational Friday, in the squads' final warm-up before the Landmark Conference Championships in two weeks. Tyler Washington (Chatham, NY) tied the all-time USMMA triple jump record and qualified for the 2014 ECAC Championships with a mark of 13.74 meters. The senior was the only Mariner to win an event on Friday as no team scoring was used during the competition.
On the women's 'side Lorisabel Santos-DeJesus (Williamsburg, VA) took third-place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:41 and placed ninth in the 800 meter race with a mark of 2:36.28. Freshman Daniella Ciufia (Toms River, NJ) cleared 1.37 meters to claim 12th in the high jump competition. Amanda See (Waukesha, WI) was eighth in the triple jump with a performance of 8.73 meters and 16th in the long jump with a leap of 3.91 meters.
Cameron Green (Lancaster, CA) crossed the line second in 2:00.34 in the 800 meter run as the rookie took second in the race and was the top Division III finisher. Senior Nathan Rodgers (South Bend, WA) cracked the top-five in the one-mile race with a time of 4:43.08 while freshman Oliver Weber (Garden City, NY) was less than one second behind for a seventh-place finish.=
The USMMA distance medley contingent of Tristan Sess (Center Moriches, NY), Krzysztof Nowacki (Aurora, CO), Thomas Routt (Elliot City, MD), and Matthew Pastuszak (Berlin, CT), earned fourth in the eight team field, clocking in at 11:37.29 The 4x800 relay team of Weber, Even Purdy (Wading River, NY), Andrew Zdeb, and Pastuszak took fifth-place with a time of 8:48.85.
The Merchant Marine indoor track & field teams return to action March 1 at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University.
