Mariners Start Season at Crowell Open

West Point, NY - The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's track and field team put on a solid performance to open their indoor season at the Crowell Open in West Point, NY. The meet included very strong competition from D-I, D-II and D-III schools. Teams competing included Army, Medgar Evers College, Cobleskill College,  and Mount Saint Mary College among others.

The standout performance for Merchant Marine came from freshman Lorisabel Santos-Dejesus (Williamsburg, VA) who placed fifth in the 500m dash with a time of 1:25.96 in her first collegiate race, coming just short of the school record of 1:25.79. Senior Katie Miller (Valdez, AZ) placed ninth overall in the 500m with a time of 1:45.09.

In the 60 meters hurdles, freshman Daniella Ciufia (Toms River, NJ) placed fourth overall with a time of 10.56. Ciufia also placed fourth overall in the high jump with a jump of 1.40m.

The women's track team will have a month to prepare for their next meet, as they will participate in the NYC Gotham Cup in New York, NY on January 10th.
