Three Mariners Named to All-Landmark Team

Kings Point, NY – The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's track and field team earned three All-Conference distinctions for their first and second place finishes at last weekend's Landmark Conference Championships.

Senior co-captain Tara Mulligan (Monroe, NY) claimed the conference title in the Weight Throw with a monstrous toss of 13.88m (45'6.5").  It was .56m better than her previous record and destroyed the rest of field by .49m to earn First Team All-Conference honors.

Mulligan ends her indoor career holding the top 13 Weight Throws in academy history and 17 of the top 20.

In the Triple Jump, senior Jessica Tyack (Lake Isabella, CA), secured Second Team All-Conference standing with a mark of 10.55m.  It was her second furthest distance ever in the Triple Jump and would have been an academy record if she had not bettered the mark with her ECAC qualifying jump earlier this season.

Senior Gretchen Holoubek (Saverna Park, MD) finished second in the 5K to achieve a Second Team All-Conference distinction.  She broke the academy record for the second time this season, besting her own mark by 17 seconds.

Holoubek's incredible run makes her the first female ever at Kings Point (including cross country, indoor, and outdoor track) to break the 19 minute barrier in the 3.1 mile race with a time of 18:47.82.

Tyack and Holoubek will be representing Merchant Marine in the ECAC Championships at the New Balance Armory in NYC on March 1 and 2.  The marks the first time in eight years any female Mariner has qualified for ECACs as Tyack will be competing in the Triple Jump and Holoubek in the 1K run.
