USMMA Picked Sixth in Preseason Poll

The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's track and field team was selected sixth by Landmark Conference coaches heading into the 2012-13 indoor season.

Merchant Marine may face some challenges this year as many of their athletes will be at sea during the winter season.

Key returners to the squad will be standout seniors, Tara Mulligan and Jessica Tyack.  Mulligan won a conference championship last year in the hammer throw and was runner up in the weight throw.  Tyack, was a conference scorer in the triple jump.

Newcomers Gloria Mahoney, Nicole Mautino, and Kate Stanislaw will provide the Mariners with some much needed sprinting depth.

Moravian, who has won every single women's track and field championship since the Landmark Conference's inception, was unanimously selected as the top team.

Merchant Marine opens their track and field season Saturday Jan. 5, at the Crowell Invitational in West Point, NY.
