Rattan Leads Way for Women's Track & Field at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. – On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's outdoor track and field squad competed at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Invite in New London, Conn. As a team, Kings Point placed 12th.

Junior Lauren Rattan (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led the way for the Mariners with her best outdoor time at 800-meters, placing seventh overall with a run of 2:31.67. Sophomore Amanda Gavrun had a great day as well with a monster throw and personal best mark in the discus. She improved her best mark by over nine feet, throwing 26.39 meters.

Sophomore Christie Gallo (Mesa, Ariz.) dropped 1.39 seconds off her 200-meter time, running a 33.45.

"Christie, like several other girls in our squad, is getting her legs back under her from being out to sea during the indoor season. I'm excited to see continuous improvement as the fitness develops," Head Coach Gregory Lott said after the meet.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ewing, N.Y. to compete at the College of New Jersey.
