Merchant Marine in Third After Opening Day of Landmark Conference Championships
Scranton, PA – The USMMA women's swimming team is currently in third-place at the 2013 Landmark Conference Championships. The Mariner divers scored the best finish of the day with sophomore Elizabeth Jackson (Albany, GA) breaking a conference record to take gold in the 1-meter diving competition.
Jackson totaled 346.00 points to defeat last year's conference champion and record holder Colleen Barry of Scranton. Junior Lynae Harvey (Thornton, CO) finished fourth in 1-meter diving for 15 points while the sixth-place of finish of Kathryn Schmidt earned 13 points for the Mariners.
Alexandra Biehn (Burnsville, MN) grabbed sixth in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:25.22. Biehn had a superb swim, improving on her preliminary time by over eight seconds.
Emily Olsen (Glenwood, NJ) hit the wall in 2:19.27 in the 200 IM to capture eight-place and 11 points for the Merchant Marine Academy. Sophomore Emily Boyson (Garland, TX) swam the same event in 2:22.06 to place 12th in the conference.
The team finished day one of the event with a fifth-place showing in the 400 yard medley relay. Jacqueline White (Oradell, NJ), Boyson, Olsen, and Megan Rumbles (Fenton, MI) combined for a time of 4:12.09 and 28 total points.
The women's swimming team returns to the pool tomorrow for Day 2 of the Landmark Conference Championships, which are being held at Marywood.
