USMMA Upends Hunter College in Dual Meet, 59-36

New York, NY – The Merchant Marine women's swimming and diving team defeated Hunter College, 59-36, in a Thursday night dual meet.   Alexandra Biehn (Bursnville, MN) captured a pair of first-place finishes for the Mariners by touching the wall just ahead of the competition in the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.15) and the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.52).

USMMA started the meet strong with a convincing win in the 200 yard medley relay as Biehn, Emily Boyson (Garland, TX), Megan Rumbles (Fenton, MI), and Emily Olsen (Glenwood, NJ) finished 11 seconds ahead of the Hawks' team.  Colleen Lindgren (Palm City, FL) and Casey Roth (Westminster, CO) continued to build an early advantage for Merchant Marine by going one-two in the 1000 yard freestyle.

On top of earning the victory in the opening relay Rumbles, Boyson and, Olsen all picked up wins in an individual event.  Olsen swam the 200 yard IM in 2:29.80 for five team points while Boyson blew away the field in 6:02.13 in the 500 freestyle.  Rumbles out-touched Hunter's Charlotte Collazo by nine hundredths of a second to claim the victory in the 50 yard freestyle in 27.86 seconds.

Freshman Elizabeth Rose (Hamilton, OH) recorded her first collegiate victory, claiming the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:56.22.  Jacqueline White (Oradell, NJ) also notched a "W" as she posted a first-place time of 2:24.70 in the 200 yard backstroke.

The USMMA women's swimming and diving team will return to the pool this weekend as they take on Landmark Conference rivals Goucher and Drew this Saturday.
