Kings Point, NY – The USMMA women's swimming and diving team was tabbed to finish fourth in the 2012-13 Landmark Conference Championships in a vote of the league's head coaches. The Mariners finished third at last year's championships, marking the highest finish in program history. Merchant Marine will look to continue its steady climb after moving up one spot in the final conference standings in each of the last four seasons.
Defending champion Susquehanna was named the 2012-13 preseason favorite, collecting five first-place votes. Scranton received three first-place nods and landed in the poll's second position. Catholic claimed the third spot in the rankings, just ahead of USMMA. The bottom half of the preseason poll was rounded out by Juniata, Marywood, Drew, and Goucher, respectively.
Emily Boyson (Burnsville, MN) returns for her sophomore season after capturing individual Landmark Conference titles in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as a rookie. Classmate and team MVP Jacqueline White (Oradell, NJ) will also look to build on a solid 2011-12 campaign in which she posted a top-three time among all conference swimmers, throughout the year, in three separate events.
The 2012-13 season kicks-off for the Mariners November 17 at the USMMA Invitational, which will also feature SUNY Maritime, Bridgeport, Adelphi, Southern Connecticut, and Queens.
