BROCKPORT, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2019) – Two members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team qualified for the NCAA National Championship Meet with top-three finishes in their respective brackets at this weekend's NCAA Mideast Regional Championship up at Brockport. Junior Joshua Glantzman (Allenwood, N.J.) came in second place in the 184-pound bracket and senior Kimo Dial (Poway, Calif.) placed third at 133 to represent the Mariners on the national stage in a few weeks.

Along with Glantzman and Dial, four other Mariners earned All-Region honors after placing in the top-eight at the meet – senior Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas) came in fourth place at 285 and is a first alternate for nationals, freshman Billy Sims (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) placed sixth at 165 and is a third alternate, classmate Dominick Esposito (Marlboro, N.J.) came in seventh at 174 and senior Chad Puglio (Myerstown, Pa.) placed eighth at 149.

Glantzman was the #2 seed in the 184-pound bracket and won his first three bouts – the opener via a technical fall and then back-to-back decisions in the quarterfinals and semifinals – to earn a spot in the first-place match. The junior dropped the championship match to the top wrestler in the country at 184, Jake Ashcraft of Ithaca, by just a 3-0 decision.

Dial started the regional meet with two-straight wins in the 133-pound bracket, his first via a tech. fall and then an sudden-victory upset over the #2-seed Tito Colom of Ithaca in the second round to reach the semifinals. He lost his semifinal matchup to the #3 seed, but battle his way through the consolation bracket to finish in third place, defeating Colom once again in the third-place match via a 7-2 decision.

As a team, the Mariners came in eighth place out of the 18 teams that scored at the event. They had 68 points over the two days. Ithaca won the regional meet with a score of 166.5, while TCNJ came in second with 139.0 points and Stevens placed third with 108.
