KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team lost its Centennial Conference matchup against Stevens, 24-21, on Tuesday night inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to an even 5-5 overall (3-1 Centennial), while the Ducks improve to 9-7 (3-0 Centennial) with the win.

Prior to the match, the USMMA wrestling program paid tribute to its nine graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony honoring Foster Wade (Camano Island, Wash,), Joseph Fiore (Canadensis, Pa.), Chad Puglio (Myerstown, Pa.), Christian Willoughby (Blountsville, Ala.), Brandon Joest (Kendalville, Ind.), Kimo Dial (Poway, Calif.), Daniel May (Stafford, Va.), Victor Raigoza (Orland, Calif.) and Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas)

The first five bouts of the night went in favor of the visitors, as the Ducks built up a 21-0 lead through half of the match.

USMMA got on the board with an 11-1 major decision victory for freshman Billy Sims (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) at 165, however Stevens killed any momentum and clinched the match with a back-and-forth 9-7 decision at 174.

Junior Joshua Glantzman (Allenwood, N.J.) earned five team points for the Mariners with a 17-1 tech. fall at 184, ending the action on the night, as the Ducks forfeited at both 197, accepted by junior Kurtis Hahn (Winfield, Mo.), and 285, accepted by Bunce, to close out the evening.
