WESTMINSTER, Va. (Feb. 3, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team competed in four Centennial Conference matches at McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon and left the Green Terror's Gill Center Gymnasium with a 2-2 record. The Mariners opened the day with losses to Johns Hopkins (21-20 on criteria) and Washington & Lee (23-15), but bounced back with victories over Gettysburg (20-19 on criteria) and McDaniel (30-15). USMMA's record moves to 8-7 (4-3 Centennial) after the action.
Two matches were tied after the wrestling was completed and were decided on criteria, as Johns Hopkins earned the 21-20 win in the opener on the second criteria of most falls (1-0), while the Mariners claimed a "W" later in the day against Gettysburg thanks to the first criteria of bouts won (6-4).
Two Mariners had perfect 4-0 record on the day – junior Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas) at 197 and sophomore Joshua Glantzman (Allenwood, N.J.) at 174. Bunce recorded one pin and one technical fall, while Glantzman had a tech. fall and a major decision.
Junior Tyler Craig (Snowhegan, Maine) at 133 and freshman Kieran Duggan (Woodbury, Conn.) at 157 both went 3-1 with one pin, while junior Erik Beshada (South River, N.J.) was 2-0 at 165 and sophomore Kurtis Hahn (Winfield, Mo.) went 2-2 at 157.
Picking up one victory on the afternoon were junior Daniel May (Stafford, Va.) at 141 with a major decision, freshman Charles Franchina (San Diego, Calif.) at 149, juniors Dan Dubinsky (Charlotte, N.C.) and Victor Raigoza (Orland, Calif.) at heavyweight and freshman Gavin Bradley (Woodbury, Minn.) in an exhibition at 174.

Up next, the Mariners will host arch-rival Coast Guard this Thursday night, Feb. 8, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
