BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2017) – The USMMA wrestling team competed in three dual matches on Sunday at the Long Island Wrestling Day, hosted by LIU Post. The Mariners started the day with a big 47-5 victory over Mount St. Vincent and ended the day with an exciting 26-21 win over East Stroudsburg. A 32-11 loss to Oneonta was sandwiched between the two triumphs.
Two Mariners battled their ways to 3-0 records with victories in all the three matches – freshman Kurtis Hahn (Winfield, Mo.) at 184 and sophomore Blake Bunce (Trophy Club, Texas) at 197. Five other Mariners came out with two wins on the day – sophomore Tyler Craig (Snowhegan, Maine) with one at 133 and one at 141, classmate Erik Beshada (South River, N.J.) at 157, freshman Joshua Glantzman (Snowhegan, Maine) at 165, sophomore Paul Cavanagh (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) at 174 and classmate Victor Raigozza (Orland, Calif.) at 285.
With the 2-1 record on the day, Merchant Marine's mark moves to 2-4 on the season. Complete results from the day can be found at this link.
Up next, the Mariners will travel down to Baltimore, Md., next Saturday, Jan. 14, for a Centennial Conference tri-match hosted by Johns Hopkins.
