KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 20, 2019) – The USMMA women's lacrosse team won an exciting affair at home on Saturday against Stockton University, 15-13, on Senior Day at Brooks Stadium. With the victory, the Mariners remain undefeated at 13-0, while the Ospreys fall to 9-5 in defeat.

Prior to the start of the game, the Merchant Marine women's lacrosse program paid tribute to its seven graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony honoring Taylor Lacy (Satellite Beach, Fla.), Elizabeth Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Catherine Livi (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine), Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.), Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) and Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.). A photo gallery of the ceremony will be available shortly at this link

On the field, Merchant Marine was led by freshman Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.), who scored seven goals, matching a career-high. Willard contributed six tallies, including the 200th of her career and juniors Grace McHugh (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Angela Parker (Bowie, Md.) both found the back net once each.

Senior Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) won a team-high seven draw controls and classmate Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.) led the pack with seven groundballs and seven caused turnovers. Gizzi also stopped 12 shots in net to record the victory.

After USMMA opened the scoring 35 seconds into the first half, Stockton responded 35 seconds later to tie it at 1-1 and start a 4-0 run, giving the visitors a 4-1 advantage. After back-to-back goals by Willard, the Ospreys increased the margin back to 5-3 at 20:38. The Mariners used a 6-2 run the remainder of the first half, including the final four goals that turned a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 advantage at halftime.

After both teams exchanged goals to begin the second, Stockton scored the next two to even it up at 11 at the 22:46 mark. USMMA rolled off three-straight goals to take a 14-11 lead at 12:34, but the Ospreys would not go quietly.

Two consecutive tallies by the visitors got them within one, 14-13, with 8:44 remaining. Willard provided an insurance goal at 7:42 to increase the margin to two and Gizzi denied a final Osprey shot with 1:17 left, to help the Mariners hold on for the thrilling 15-13 win.

For Stockton, freshman Michelle Pascrell led the way with four points on three goals and an assist, while sophomore Nicole Jandras also registered three tallies and junior Abbey Yannacone had three points with two goals and a helper. Freshmen Mary Carroll and Jennifer Toal both had two goals apiece. Classmate Casey Shultz dished out a team-high two assists and scooped up a team-best four groundballs. Senior Gaby Ojeda took a game-high eight draw controls in the contest and classmate Brooke Hallett made five saves between the pipes in a losing effort.

Up next, the Mariners will host Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary this Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video stream of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Lacrosse Schedule Page
