NJCU Topples Mariners, 56-46

Kings Point, NY – Demi VanDerWal (Springfield, IL) dropped in a season high 17 points but the USMMA women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 decision to NJCU Wednesday night.  Rebecca Resor (Bay St. Louis, MS) continued her strong season on the glass with 13 rebounds.  Senior Alexandra Winfree (Millstone, NJ) also reached double figures with 10 points.

NJCU (3-5) started off red hot and built a 15-4 advantage over the first seven minutes of the game with its jump shooting.  Four Gothic Knights reached double digits in scoring as Kiana Briggs led the way with 16 points.  Bria Smith recorded a game high 16 rebounds for the visitors and NJCU tallied only eight turnovers all night.

The Mariners shot just 32.7 percent from the field, including a 24 percent mark in the first half.  USMMA was 11-of-14 (78.6%) at the free throw line but made just 1-of-9 at from three-point range.  Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, IA) dished out three assists in the loss.  NJCU cruised down the stretch and picked up the 56-46 non-conference victory.

The USMMA women's basketball team returns to action this weekend for Landmark Conference action against Scranton and Moravian.
