Last night the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team notched their second straight win, 66-54, in a non-conference matchup against the York College Cardinals. The Mariners cruised to victory never relinquishing the lead after commandeering an early advantage.
It was a true team effort as five different players scored in double figures. Junior guard Roshenda Josephs led all scorers with 15. Freshman forward Rebecca Resor (pictured right) was close behind contributing 14 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
Junior guard Tamara Kaileh scored 12 and added two more steals to her season total. Sophomore forward Alexandra Winfree was lights out from three point range shooting 75% beyond the arc and freshmen guard Demi Van Der Wal added 10 points and seven boards.
The Mariner's 31-22 halftime lead was too much for York College to overcome. The Cardinals were led in scoring by senior guard Joana Josama who had 13 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Junior forward Shadae Rice and sophomore guard Shadea Green also contributed eight points apiece.
With the win, the Mariners improve to 6-10 overall and remain 2-5 in conference play. Their next matchup is at home Friday January 27th against Susquehanna University who come to Kings Point having lost five in a row including a defeat at the hands of the Mariners on January 8th.
