USMMA Pistol places seventh at NRA Collegiate Pistol Championships
Fort Benning, GA - The results are in from last weekend's National Rifle Association Collegiate Pistol Championships, which placed the United States Merchant Marine Academy Pistol team seventh overall with an aggregate of 6,037 points.
In the team events, the tandem of Josh Cox, Bert Toone, Michael Budesa and Jason Berger placed ninth in the Standard event with a mark of 1,988 points, which was good for ninth place. Utah took first in the event with 2,103 points, while Navy (2,100) and Army (2,096) rounded out the top-three.
Kings Point improved their team standing in the Free Pistol event with a seventh place finish (1,903). The Mariners placed two spots higher than arch-rival Coast Guard, which placed ninth (1,768). Army (2,067) won the event, while Ohio (2,010) and Navy (2,009) placed second and third, respectively.
The Blue & Gray dueled for another victory over Coast Guard but fell three points shy of the Bears for sixth place with a score of 2,146 points for seventh. Army (2,195), Navy (2,190) and The Ohio State University (2,177) earned the top-three spots.
USMMA scored 46 more points than that of Coast Guard in the overall standings to place ahead of the Bears in seventh. Kings Point also finished ahead of Texas A&M University and Michigan State, which rounded out the bottom of the barrel. Army took gold for the highest combined mark of 6,358 points, while Navy (6,299) and the Ohio State University (6,283) claimed second and third, respectively.
Cox and Berger represented the Mariners in the individual events. Cox placed 11th in Air (551), 18th in the Standard (519) and 19th in Free (495). Berger notched a 19th place finish with 537 points in the Air event.
