MANCHESTER, Conn. (Sept. 9, 2017) – The USMMA men's cross country team opened the 2017 season on Saturday at the Trinity College Invite at Wickham Park in Connecticut, not far from the Trinity campus. The Mariner men finished in third place at the event with 98 points, just behind arch-rival Coast Guard, which came in second with 50 points, and hosts Trinity, which won the Invite with 25 points.
Sophomore James Gunderson (Bloomington, Minn.) was the third Mariner to cross the finish line, coming in 36th place with a time of 18:05.7, while freshman Patrick Porch (Halstead, Kan.) was right behind him in 37th place in 18:05.8. Round out the USMMA scorers was sophomore Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.), who came in 42nd place in 18:13.7.
In a head-to-head matchup against Coast Guard, the Mariners came in second place with a score of 36 points to the Bears' 25.

The Mariners are back in action tomorrow morning, Sunday, Sept. 10, when they take part in the Baruch Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Action is set to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
