Men’s XC Concludes Season with Strong Showing at NCAA Regionals
ONEONTA, N.Y. – On Saturday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country squad competed in the NCAA Regional Qualifying Meet in Oneonta, N.Y. and finished 31st out of 40 teams.
Four of the Mariners' seven runners notched lifetime personal bests against the top runners in the Atlantic region. Junior Brendan von Koss (Petaluma, Calif.) was the top runner for Kings Point clocking in with a personal best time of 28:09.
Freshman Thomas Routt (Ellicott City, Md.) really stepped up with his personal best race as well, finishing with a marking of 28:32. Junior Ross Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) put forth another solid performance (28:41).
Seniors Jerry Dodson (Longmont, Colo.) and team captain Warren Tucker (Madera, Calif.) rounded out the Top-5 for the Mariners. Dodson finished with a time of 28:51, while Tucker clocked in at 28:56.
"I'm incredibly proud of the progress shown by each member of our squad. The men had great efforts throughout the season, which was exhibited through their continuous improvement. We have a lot to be excited about with the future of our program," Head Coach Gregory Lott commented after the meet.
