Lott Resigns as Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach
Kings Point, NY – Gregory Lott has officially resigned from his position as the Head Track & Field and Cross Coach at the Merchant Marine Academy, effective June 29. Lott has been at the helm of the cross country and track programs for the last three seasons. During that span, all six teams set program records for total points and highest team finish at the Landmark Conference Championships. In Coach Lott's tenure, 88 Academy track & field records have fallen and the Mariners have won 17 individual conference championships along with 17 runner-up finishers and reached 34 qualifying marks for the ECAC Championships.
"I'm very proud of the Midshipmen and what they have been able to accomplish over the past three years," said Lott. "It has been an honor to lead this program. The foundation is strong for continued success and I will continue to support all of our athletes from afar".
Vincent Giambanco has been promoted to Associate Head Cross Country Coach as the program makes its current transition and gears up for the fall season. Giambanco was instrumental in the development of Landmark Conference Champions Tomas Sanchez and Daniel Baxter as well as Gretchen Holoubek, who now holds 12 Academy records.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy will conduct a national search for Lott's successor.
