Tennis Finishes Season Strong

Kings Point, NY – The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (2-9) defeated the Lighting of Lehman College (2-12) by a score of 8-1 Tuesday afternoon in Kings Point, NY.

The tandem of freshman Josh Levitas and sophomore Jeremy Guettlein picked up their team-leading third victory of the season as the Mariners swept doubles competition against the Lightning 3-0.

Merchant Marine went 5-1 in singles matches as senior Bryan Diffley picked up his team-high fourth victory of the season.  He concludes the season with a 4-4 singles record and was the only member of the Kings Point squad to win multiple conference matches.

Levitas and sophomore Moana Kawatachi also both had victories, tying for second for the team lead in singles matches winning three apiece during the 2013 campaign.

Senior captain Phillip Criswell III won his final match as a Kings Pointer, teaming with Kawatachi to nab an 8-1 doubles victory.  Senior Timothy Buxton was also able to grab a win in his final contest, winning a doubles match 8-5 partnered with freshman Steve Ficken.
