KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 28, 2019) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy junior Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.), classmate Caelin Weaver (Olive Branch, Miss.), sophomores Daniel Moore (Riverview, Fla.), Jack Welch (Chesapeake, Va.) and Jack Higgins (Needham, Mass.), and freshman Patrick Tolloti (Dover, Ohio) are all headed to the NCAA Division III Swim & Dive National Championship Meet in late March! The NCAA and USA Swimming announced the 236 men's swimmers who have been invited to the national championships on Wednesday night and the six Mariners are the most that head coach Sean Tedesco will bring to the national meet in his 18 seasons at Kings Point.
All of the Mariners' NCAA cuts were hit this past weekend at the Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet, at which the Merchant Marine men went full-throttle to win for the first time since 1986.
Monahan and Tolloti were invited individually, and the 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams that placed first at Mets with high NCAA cuts have also been invited – Moore, Welch, Higgins and Monahan in the 200 free relay, and Moore, Welch, Weaver and Monahan in the 400 free relay.
The Mariners will have 13 total swims in nine different events over the four-day national championship meet.
Individually, Monahan will swim in the 50 free, the 100 breast and the 200 breast; Tolloti will compete in the 100 breast, the 200 breast and the 200 individual medley; and since Higgins and Moore both hit NCAA cuts in the 50 free, and additionally Moore hit one in the 100 free leading off the 400 FR at Mets, they are both eligible to compete in those respective events at nationals.
In addition to the 200 FR and 400 FR events, the Mariners will also be able to have teams compete in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay, which will be made up of a combination of the six swimmers heading to nationals.

Merchant Marine still has a chance to qualify up to three more Mariners for NCAAs, as diving coach Johan C. Lopez will bring a trio of divers up to MIT this weekend to the NCAA Regional Diving Meet in hopes of joining the six swimmers at nationals.
