KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 22, 2017) – A pair of USMMA freshmen earned weekly honors from the Skyline Conference in men's swimming, the league announced earlier this week. Freshman Jack Welch (Chesapeake, Va.) was selected as the Skyline Swimmer of the Week, while classmate Jack Higgins (Needham, Mass.) earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Welch earned three first-place finishes in his first collegiate meet, the USMMA Memorial Invite on Saturday. Individually, he won the 50 freestyle with a time 21.70, and he was also the final leg of the meet-opening 200 medley relay that touched first in 1:38.48 and the second leg of the Mariners' 400 free relay team that won in 3:16.00. The freshman also came in second place in the 100 free in 47.82.
Higgins had two first-place finishes at the Invite on Saturday. He touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.70 and was the second leg of the 200 medley relay that won in 1:38.48. The rookie also placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:20.94.

The Mariners are back in action the weekend of Dec. 1-3, when they travel to Ewing, N.J. to take part in the TCNJ Invitational. More info on that Invite will be available closer to the event.
