FLUSHING, N.Y. (Dec. 10, 2014) – The USMMA men's swimming & diving team took on Division II opponent Queens College on Wednesday night in the squad's first dual meet of the season and the Mariners came out on top of the Knights by the score of 123-83. With the victory, 14th-year head coach Sean Tedesco earned his 100th dual meet victory with the men's team.
Freshman Andrew Jackson (Cheasapeake, Va.) picked up three wins on the night, earning his first two collegiate individual victories by touching first in both the 50 free (22.59) and 100 free (48.64) events. He was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that won the opening event of the night with a time of 1:41.61.
Senior Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, Fla.) also won three events at the meet. Individually, he touched first in the 200 free in 1:54.99 and the 100 fly in 55.24, and he was also a part of the 200 free relay team that won with a time of 1:30.81.
Sophomore Karl Sasse (Frederick, Md.) earned a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.04 and was a part of the 200 medley relay team that won the opening event. Senior Hunter Rowan (Matthews, N.C.) was also on the 200MR team and, individually, he touched first in the 100 back with a time of 58.62.
Freshman Jordan Weaver (Olive Branch, Miss.) earned his first collegiate victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.56.
In the diving competitions, junior William Porter (Houston, Texas) won the first one-meter diving competition with a score of 159.20, while sophomore Ryan Mavity (St. Joseph, Mich.) claimed the top spot in the second competition with 215.92 points. The Mariners are done for the 2014 portion of their schedule and will return to action next on Sunday, January 11, 2014, when they will face Division I opponent Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at noon at the Wildcats' Villanova Swim Complex.
