USMMA Knocks Off Marywood; Mavity Meets NCAA Qualifying Marks
Scranton, PA - Freshman Ryan Mavity (St. Joseph, MI) met NCAA qualifying standards in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions as the Mariners defeated Landmark Conference rival Marywood. Mavity won both events as he posted 281.65 points on the 1-meter board and 317.20 points on the 3-meter en route to being named Mariner of the Meet. The victory moves Merchant Marine to a perfect 2-0 on the season and 1-0 against Landmark opposition.
"The men's team swam really well today and I'm glad to see many of our returning sea year athletes starting to improve," said Head Coach Sean Tedesco. "I am extremely excited for the second half of the season."
Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL) captured the top spot in both the 200 IM and 200 backstroke while Austin Butt (Westminster, MD) earned victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Freshman Stone Hewitt (Destin, FL) also picked up a win with a time of 2:10.72, shaving three seconds off of his season high.
