Kings Point, NY – The USMMA men's swimming and diving team earned a victory over Division I Manhattan, 153-102, Saturday afternoon inside O'Hara Hall. Jordan Cripe (Monterey, CA) earned two first-place finishes with season bests in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, finishing in 10:15.58 and 4:57.20, respectively. The men's team continues to prove it can compete with division I opponents and have also beaten Georgetown, Iona, and St. Francis in recent years.
Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX) posted a season best in the 200 freestyle, hitting the wall first in 1:46.12 just ahead of Blake Krell (Fort Myers, FL) who also posted a season best time for second place. Chris Scott (Andover, KS) kept the wins coming for USMMA with a triumph in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.74 with Blair Roberts (South Jordan, UT) taking second in a season best time of 2:03.33.
Hunter Rowan (Matthews, NC) captured first-place points with a blistering time of 54.31 in the 100 fly, edging out his nearest competition by over 3.5 seconds. Bryce Kramer also earned nine points for the Mariners with a season best time of 55.95. Jamie Masterson (Charlottesville, VA) touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.04 seconds.
The Mariners also went 1-2 in both diving diving competitions as Sean Higgins (Anacortes, WA) took first-place in both events followed by second-place performances from William Porter (Houston, TX). USMMA sealed the victory on the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay as Brice, Masterson, Sean Minor (Fort Myers, FL), and Josh McCormick (Granite Bay, CA) combined for a time of 1:28.05.
The win ends action for Merchant Marine in 2012 as they will return to the pool after the new year.
