Queens, NY – The USMMA men's swimming and diving team earned a victory over Queens College in the team's first dual meet of the 2012-13 season. The Mariners were able to build a comfortable lead early and knocked off the Knights, 135-99, on the road Wednesday night.
Merchant Marine finished 1-2-3 in the first individual event of the afternoon as Case Kuikhoven (Ketchikan, AK), Josh Sindorf (Lancaster, PA), and Andrew Terselic (Tijera, NM) touched the wall, in that order, in the 1000 freestyle. Blake Krell (Fort Myers, FL) made it back-to-back wins for USMMA with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:54.14.
Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX) earned first-place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.58, earning nine points for the visitors. Brice also topped the field in the 500 yard freestyle, hitting the wall in 5:01.33. Chris Scott (Andover, KS) kept the momentum going for Merchant Marine with the top time of 2:06.54 in the 200 yard individual medley. Scott earned a second win later in the meet with a 1:03.66 performance in the 100 breaststroke. William Porter (Houston, TX) racked up 218.04 points to pick up the victory in the 1 meter diving competition.
The Mariners close out the first semester Saturday afternoon when they host Division I opponent Manhattan.
