Ney Named Skyline Men’s Soccer Player Of The Week

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2018) – The Skyline Conference announced its weekly award winners for men's soccer on Monday and USMMA senior defender Sam Ney (Vicenza, Italy) was selected as the league's Player of the Week. The praise comes after his performance in the Mariners' 4-0 Skyline First Round victory over St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday. 

Ney scored a pair of beautiful goals for the Mariners in the second half to increase their lead over the Golden Eagles to 3-0. Both marker came on perfectly targeted rockets from outside the 18-yard box. They were the second and third goals of the season for the senior. You can view the tallies at this link and at this link

Three Mariners rank in the top-10 among the Skyline stat leaders, including junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.), who is the conference leader with a 0.541 goals against average, while also ranking second with a .816 save percentage and tied for second with seven solo shutouts. Sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) is tied for second with four game-winning goals, tied for seventh with eight goals and also ranks eighth in points per game (1.06) and senior Wagner Mogga (Kiambu, Kenya) is tied for fifth in the conference with two game-winning tallies. Milner also ranks high among national stat leaders, as he is 18th in the country in goals against average and 27th in shutouts. Lysakowski is 36th in the nation in game-winning goals.
