Mariners Fall Short Of SUNY Maritime, 2-1, Thursday Night At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2018) – The USMMA men's soccer team suffered a tough loss at home to SUNY Maritime on Thursday night in a physical game, 2-1. The Mariners fall to 6-3-2 (2-2-1 Skyline) on the season in defeat, while the Privateers improve to 10-3 (3-1 Skyline).

Maritime got on the board first in the 31st minute when freshman Larry Castello found the back of the net on a rebound off of a shot on a free kick by senior Parker Gallt. The Privateers held the lead into the halftime break despite Merchant Marine holding a 9-8 advantage in shots, including a 5-3 mark in shots on goal.

The Privateers doubled the lead in the 63rd minute on a leaping header by junior Nicholas Ciacca off of a corner kick by sophomore James Roland.

The Mariners got one back in the 75th minute when senior Sam Ney (Vicenza, Italy) converted off of a rebound from a blocked shot by sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.). USMMA then spent the rest of the time remaining trying to find the equalizer, but were unable to.

In goal, junior Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) recorded eight saves, while his counterpart for SUNY Maritime, junior Michael Rodriguez had five stop son the night.

Up next, the Mariners will travel to Farmingdale State for a Skyline showdown with the Rams this Saturday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 12-noon. Live stats for the game will be available at this link.
