PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2018) – The USMMA men's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's-L.I., 2-1, on the road Saturday afternoon at SJC's Danzi Stadium. The win improves the Mariners' record to 5-2-2 (1-1-1 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles drop to 4-6-0 (2-2-0 Skyline on the year.

Senior Joe Springer (Bowie, Md.) opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he pounced on a rebound in the box off a header by classmate Wagner Mogga (Kiambu, Kenya) and scored his first goal of the season. The Mariners took that 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

The Golden Eagles leveled the score in the 55th minute via senior Justin Busto, who took junior Damian Duda's left-sided cross first-time and beat USMMA's junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.)

Despite being seemingly destined for overtime, Springer tallied for the second time in the 82nd minute, propelling USMMA to the narrow 2-1 victory. Again Springer scored off of a rebound, this time off of sophomore Zach Lysakowski's (Reading, Pa.) shot which was blocked in the box.

Milner was credited with two saves for his fifth victory of the season. SJC keeper Tyler Flaherty made six saves in a match that saw his side outshot 24-7.
