USMMA Picked Fifth in Landmark Conference Preseason Poll

Kings Point, NY – The Landmark Conference released its 2013 preseason soccer poll this morning, tabbing the Mariners fifth heading into the 2013 campaign.

Scranton was selected tops in the conference receiving six of seven possible first-place votes, with Catholic and Susquehanna respectively rounding out the top three:

Looking to rebound from their first season with less than 10 wins since 1990, Merchant Marine has its sights set on a bounce back year with the return of All-Conference goalkeeper Gary Poulin, who missed the entire 2012 season.

"Last fall was a season full of trials and tribulations," said Head Coach Michael Smolens. Coach Fitzgerld, Coach Banks, and I are pleased with the work our guys have done so far, and we're looking forward to getting back to the type of success we've had over the past few decades here at Kings Point."

The top four teams in the final regular season standings qualify for postseason play in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The top two seeds will host semifinals Nov. 6 with the highest remaining seed scheduled to host the championship Nov. 9. The conference champion will earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

USMMA kicks off their season at the Union Tournament when they take on Rensselaer Saturday August 31st at 4:30 PM in Schenectady, NY.
