The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will play Drew University in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference men's soccer tournament this week.
Drew became the Mariners' foes when the Rangers played Catholic University to a 1-1 draw in the final regular-season game for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Mariners will play at Drew at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The winner of that match will meet the victor of the Catholic-Susquehanna University encounter for the league title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Mike Brennan scored for Catholic in the fourth minute, while Drew pulled even in the 73rd minute.
The third-seeded Mariners (9-6-1) dropped a frustrating 1-0 home decision to the Rangers (15-3), ranked No. 16 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America in the latest Division III poll in their only other meeting this season on Oct. 19.
The Mariners outshot the Rangers, 15-9, forced junior goalkeeper Rich Boland to make six saves and hit the woodwork twice, but could not solve one of the most stingy defenses in the nation in a rain-drenched game on Tomb Field in Kings Point, N.Y.
Junior forward Sam Nepveux gave Drew all the scoring it needed at 17:43, when he headed in a Kevin Veliz free kick past goalkeeper Gary Poulin.
