Lane Gould Named Landmark Fall Senior Scholar Athlete
MADISON, N.J. – On Tuesday, the Landmark Conference office announced its fall senior scholar athletes and Lane Gould (Greenville, Texas) of the United States Merchant Marine Academy was awarded the honor. All six Landmark Conference sports have one senior scholar athlete and Gould earned the accolade for men's soccer.
The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. This award is the most exclusive awarded by the Conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.
The Greenville, Texas native was a standout for the USMMA men's soccer team that earned back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. He was a co-captain of the team this season, which saw him score three goals, dish out five assists and help guide the Mariners to the "Elite 8" round of the NCAA Division III Tournament where USMMA fell to the eventual national champions. It was the furthest any team has ever gone in Academy history.
He was a two-time All-Conference pick for USMMA and finished his career with 10 goals and 11 assists, including two game-winning goals during the 2009 season. Gould is working towards a degree as a ships officer and has maintained an outstanding GPA in the rigorous 20-plus credit course load at Kings Point. He was a Landmark All-Academic honoree is 2009, is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice and plays guitar in the USMMA chapel praise band.
