Men’s Lacrosse Opens Season This Weekend; Full Schedule Available

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 1, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team will begin the 2019 campaign this Sunday, March 3, with a neutral-site game against William Peace University in Virginia Beach, Va. It is the first of two games the Mariners will play during their spring break trip to Virginia – the other is on Wednesday, March 6, against Southern Virginia.

The 2019 season will be head coach Tom Gill's 29th on the Mariner sidelines. USMMA will play a total of 15 regular season games, including six against Skyline Conference opponents, as the Mariners will be in search of their second-straight conference championship. In addition to the two neutral-site games, Merchant Marine will play eight games at home on Tomb Field at Brooks Stadium and five more games on the road at other schools' campuses. 

After the spring break trip, the Mariners will return to Kings Point for their home-opener on Saturday, March 9, against Western Connecticut State. The following week will feature a road game at future Skyline opponent Manhattanville College on Wednesday, March 13, and a home game against MIT on Saturday, March 16. 

Then the Mariners will face two schools from New London, Conn., as they will travel up to the Constitution State on Wednesday, March 20, for a road contest at Connecticut College, before hosting arch-rival Coast Guard on Saturday, March 23. The final game of March is a home, non-conference tilt against UMass-Boston on Saturday, March 30. 

Skyline Conference action opens on Tuesday, April 2, with a home game against Mount St. Vincent, and continues that Saturday, April 6, at home again, this time against St. Joseph's-Long Island. The Mariners then hit the road for the Annual Hagedorn Cup Game against Skyline-rival SUNY Maritime on Wednesday, April 10, in the Bronx.

USMMA will step out of conference play to travel to former Skyline opponent Montclair State on Monday, April 15, before finishing the regular season with three-straight Skyline games – at Farmingdale State on Thursday, April 18, at home against 2018 Skyline runner-up Mount St. Mary on Wednesday, April 24, and then on the road at Purchase on Saturday, April 27. 

The top four teams at the end of the regular season will earn berths into the Skyline Conference Championship tournament, which begins with the semifinals (#4 at #1 and #3 at #2) on Wednesday, May 2. The Skyline Championship game will be played on Saturday, May 4, with an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament on the line.
