KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 15, 2018) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team outscored visiting Manhattanville, 8-2, in the second half to defeat the Valiants, 13-7, on Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. The win improves the Mariners' record to 4-0, while M'Ville suffers their first loss of the season and drops to 4-1.

Senior Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) scored three goals in the first quarter to reach the 100 career goals plateau. This comes just one game after he reached both the 200-point and 100-assist marks. He finished the night with a game-high seven points on the night with four goals and three assists. Treon also added five groundballs in the affair.

Classmate Pat Coll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored his fourth-straight hat-trick to start the season and junior Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) also had three points with two tallies and one assist.

Three other Mariners recorded two points apiece, all with one goal and one assist – senior Tucker Dodson (Charleston, S.C.), sophomore Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) and freshman Kyle Orton (Lewes, Del.). Sophomore Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) also found the back of the net to round out the scorers for Merchant Marine.

In the faceoff-X, freshman Kyle Buser (Babylon, N.Y.) won 22-of-24 draws and scooped up 18 groundballs to lead all players. Orton added six GBs on the night and was one of three Mariners with one caused turnover (Coll and Renard were the other two). Defensively, senior Max Maudsley (Wilton, Conn.) tied for the game-high with two caused turnovers.

Between the pipes, freshman Brendan Kane (Lewes, Del.) made nine saves to earn the victory.

The Valiants had all the momentum before halftime, as they trailed 5-2 early in the second, but scored three goals to end the half tied 5-5. However, USMMA scored the first six goals of the second half – all five tallies in the third quarter and the first of the fourth – and cruised on to the victory.

Grad. student Andrew Murray led the Valiants with three points on two goals and one assist. Sophomore T.J. Caccavo added two goals, while classmate Gianni Ciffone had one tallie and one helper. Junior defender Sam Hahn led Manhattanville with four groundballs and sophomore goalie Jason Frezza made 15 saves on the night in the losing effort.
