KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 22, 2015) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Geoff Harty (Chicago, Ill.) became just the eighth player in USMMA men's lacrosse history to reach the 200-point plateau in his career, as he scored five first-quarter goals to reach the milestone, helping to lead the Mariners to an 18-3 victory over Mitchell on Wednesday afternoon in the 2015 home-finale at Brooks Stadium. Merchant Marine improves to 6-7 overall on the season, while the visiting Mitchell Mariners fall to 5-8.
Harty's fifth tally came with just 14 seconds to play in the opening quarter and capped off a period in which the Mariners outscored Mitchell, 10-1. A total of 10 players scored in the victory, including starting goalie, senior Alex Peyreigne (Weston, Conn.), who recorded his first career goal (and second career point) after he made a save late in the second quarter, charged up the field and let a hard shot rip from long range that found its way past Mitchell's back-up goalie, Mark Vuolo.
