PURCHASE, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2018) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost its road Skyline Conference contest up at Purchase College, 67-49, on Saturday afternoon. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 7-9 (5-7 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 12-6 (8-5 Skyline).
Junior David Washington (Frisco, Texas) picked up a double-double in the affair as he tied for the game-high with 14 points and led all players with 18 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Freshman James Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) added 12 points, four boards and dished out a team-best five assists. Off the bench, senior Christian Wittendorf (Granger, Ind.) contributed nine points.
Sophomore Connor Green (Flower Mound, Texas) had six points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, freshman Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) added four points and junior Kijona Henley (Smithfield, Va.) and sophomore Michael Bell (Ashburn, Va.) both scored two points off the bench to round out the Mariner scorers.
The hosts led throughout nearly the entire game, with their advantage reaching double-figures at 11:07 of the opening half. The Mariners fought back to within eight points on four separate occasions in the latter part of the first, but that was the closest they'd come the rest of the afternoon.
Purchase had four players score in double-figures with senior Tarik Allicock leading the way matching the game-high with 14 points. Classmate Nikeem Deleon posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, junior Deshawn Cann also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists and classmate Rob Grullon contributed 10 points.
Up next, the Mariners will host Skyline opponent St. Joseph's of Long Island this Tuesday, Jan. 29. Tipoff against the Golden Eagles is set for 6 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
